Short description of organisation represented in project
The Office of Linguistic Policy is the organisation of direction, planning, coordination and execution of the linguistic policy of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Its goal is to promote the deployment and the application of the legislation in article 3 of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia, to oversee the application of the linguistic policy that the Government lays down and to coordinate the actions and measures of the several departments that are deal with linguistic issues.
Territory where language is spoken
The Catalan language, with all its variants, is spoken over an area inhabited by ten million people. It is an official language in the state of Andorra and the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. It is also spoken in part of the territory of the Autonomous Community of Aragon, the French department of Pyrénées Orientales and the town of Alghero in Sardinia.

The Catalan, own and official language of Catalonia
The article 3th of the Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia establishes:
- "The language of Catalonia is Catalan.
- The Catalan language is the official language of Catalonia, along with Castilian, which is the official language of the Spanish State.
- The Generalitat will guarantee the normal and official use of both languages, it will take the necessary measures in order to promote their knowledge and it will ensure the equality of both languages and the rights and duties of the citizens of Catalonia".
